Nature Journal

This fall we are studying trees in our neighborhood for nature studies. This past week we studied the magnolia tree. The boys each have their own nature journal where we keep our nature findings, sketchings, leaf rubbings and things we observe and learn about nature. Calvin likes to do his nature lessons in his motorcycle helmet!

a few of my favorite Charlotte Mason nature quotes. Thank you Charlotte for your inspiration and love of nature.

"Children should be made early intimate with the trees, should pick out half a dozen trees, oak, elm, ash, beech, in their winter nakedness, and take these to be their year-long friends"

"We are all meant to be naturalists, each in his own degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things."

“There is no part of a child's education more important than that he should lay - by his own observation - a wide basis of facts towards scientific knowledge in the future."

"Let them once get in touch with nature and a habit is formed which will be a source of delight and habit through life."
